With the support of Wallonia-AVIQ and the Commission Communautaire Commune de Bruxelles-Capitale, the Belgian Cancer Registry (BCR) has developed a series of quality indicators relating to the management of various cancer types. Two main categories of indicators are generally studied: process indicators and outcome indicators.
These indicators are calculated based on cancer data collected by the BCR and linked to billing data from insurers (reimbursed medical services and pharmaceutical expenditure), obtained by the Intermutualistic Agency (IMA-AIM).
Currently, several reports have been created and sent to all hospitals in Brussels and Wallonia to give individual feedback on quality of care. These reports concern several types of cancer: breast cancer, lung cancer, and rectal cancer. An anonymized general report has also been sent to the authorities in each region.
Regular monitoring is planned for these three organs, so that hospitals can assess changes in the results of the various quality indicators for their hospital.
